Team Tennis Engages YouthSay Yes To Tennis and Akron After School join together to present Team Tennis to area youth.
Team Tennis is a new dynamic youth program that is designed to engage and excite hundreds of Akron city youth about playing tennis.
The importance of physical activity such as provided by team sports is at an all-time high due to the fact that many of our children are now overweight. Studies show that currently, only one out of four adolescent children participate regularly in any type of organized physical activity. The highly motivational format of Team Tennis increases the likelihood that kids will continue to be involved with tennis. Team Tennis kids develop a sense of community and belonging, develop pride in their team and their school, acquire physical skills, develop social competence and improved self-esteem. Team Tennis provides an effective and highly motivational strategy that facilities kids playing tennis during elementary school and sustaining play through middle school. In doing so they will help eradicate the poor quality of high school tennis in the Akron Public Schools. Team Tennis takes tennis to the next level and accomplishes several goals. Foremost, it has the capacity to serve over 400 inner city elementary school kids, utilizing tennis not only as a tool for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but as a hook for kids to stay in school and to maintain good grades through a grades to play policy. Studies have shown a direct correlation between sports participation and improved scores on high stakes tests. Visit the Team Tennis Awards Day page
