Passion for Tennis and Teaching Carves Career Path

Teaching was something I never thought I would want to do.

Selecting a career path is one of the most critical challenges young people face. Make a wrong decision and you can spend years and years plugging away at a job you dread going to each day. For this reason, I know that I am one of the lucy ones.

However, it wasn't until I became involved with Say Yes To Tennis that my career path became evident. Prior to that time, I was in school, but without a major. Luckily, after spending a few short months of being a tennis coach, what I would do for a living became loud and clear.

During those initial months with Say Yes To Tennis, I worked a variety of programs ranging from the after school to home school programming. Although, I really enjoyed working with children of various ages, it wasn’t until working with the Munchkin Tennis program (3-5 year olds) that it became evident to me that I needed to pursue a career as an early childhood educator. I got up every morning excited to teach tennis to my pre-kindergarten kids. How many people can say they truly are excited about they do each day?

Currently, I am a junior at Akron University pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education (this will certify me to teach pre-kindergarten through third grade) with a minor in Child Development.

Not only do I have a passion for tennis and for teaching, but I enoy being creative in other venues as well. My artistic abilities lead me to another part time career, decorating cakes. Here you see my most recent endeavor, a wedding cake that I created as a gift for a close friend's special day.

I know that I am fortunate in many ways. Discovering my career passion at an early age will certainly assure me many years of enjoying what I do each day.

If you would like some help in discovering what it is that you are passionate about doing, regardless of your age, check out some reflective questions that will help guide you in determing your career choice.
